#63 and # 64 You Too Can Build an Artificial Pancreas at Home
Dana Lewis and her husband Scott Leibrand are so amazing that they each deserve their own podcast episode!
#63: Dana Lewis has type 1 diabetes and one day she decided to try to make the alarms louder on her Dexcom CGM. That simple endeavor led Dana and her husband Scott to build their very own artificial pancreas... then they shared the code that they wrote online. Dana says that anyone who wants to, can do the very same thing. This is a story about ingenuity, community and the desire to live a better life.

#64: Scott Leibrand loves Dana Lewis (episode 63) and together they built Dana her very own artificial pancreas. This episode isn't a true part 2, it is more a different perspective on the story of OpenAPS then the one you heard in ep 63. In the end, I got the feeling that if this guy loves you... there is nothing that he wouldn't do.

#26 Four Time Olympian Kris Freeman
Kris Freeman, four-time Olympic cross country skier, comes on the podcast to share his take on the controversial remarks posted on Twitter by the CrossFit CEO in 2015, and why Kris thinks Type 1 diabetes should be renamed. Scott and Kris discuss the challenges of living and working with others who have preconceived stereotypes about what it means to live with Type 1 diabetes. Kris describes the early years of his management and how he manages now in order to compete at the Olympic level in cross country skiing. Scott shares his thoughts on why having stable blood sugars are important and why he works so hard to keep Arden’s blood sugar stable overnight. They discuss Arden’s latest A1C and Scott’s management style and the techniques he uses to achieve it. Scott and Kris discuss physical activity and living well.
What begins as a conversation about the twitter/Crossfit debacle quickly turns to an interesting conversation about type 1 diabetes management. You definitely want to hear what a person who is as in-tune with their body as Kris Freeman thinks about diabetes management. Anyone who can cross country ski at the Olympics with type 1 diabetes, has my respect. Listen with a close ear for Kris's perspective and attitude when it comes to T1 and how he handles it.
