2013 in Pictures

2013 was a good one around here. New diabetes technology, improved A1c, and what seemed like non-stop interviews and talking about my book.

I want my family to know how much I appreciate the support and patience that they showed me as 'Life Is Short' consumed my year, this blog, and my life. I don't think that I've ever felt more blessed than I did on the day I realized that becoming a published author caused my children consider that anything in life is possible. This accomplishment wasn't reached alone.

First, my family let me write without guilt or pressure - I can't thank them enough for being so generous. Speaking of generosity, no publishing company in the world was going to ask me write a book without each and every one of you. Make no mistake, it is the support that you show everyday when you visit Arden's Day, that made my book a reality. Please know that I am completely aware of, and two million percent grateful for your continued readership.

In a few days I'll be posting a list of my favorite blog post from 2013 and then I'll be diving back into my second book (The one that Spry Publishing is very kindly not calling to tell me that I'm behind on). After I finish writing the book, I'll be getting back to blogging regularly here and even expanded my online writing a bit... look for my parenting column on Huffington Post sometime very soon... I'm so excited about being asked to contribute to HuffParents!

I'm looking forward to 2014, may it be the best one yet... for us all!

Oh Lilly: Coco, Sleepovers and Me

Remember back in August when I gave away ten copies of 'Coco's First Sleepover' and I told you that sometime way in the future, I'd be participating in a Lilly Diabetes press junket to talk about sleepovers and diabetes? Well, time sure does fly because I'll be leaving Monday for The Big Apple, Metropolis, site of the 1964 World's Fair, the city that never sleeps... if I can make it there... Okay, you get it, I'm going to New York City.

On Tuesday, September 24th I'll be participating in a satellite media tour for Lilly Diabetes. I arrive early in the morning armed with only my knowledge of being the parent of a child with type I diabetes and my urbane wit. Throughout the day I, along with Amy Hess Fischl, M.S., R.D., L.D.N., BC-ADM, C.D.E., will answer questions as they are asked by the following media outlets. List subject to change.

I'm excited to be helping Lilly and Disney to get the word out about their diabetes themed children's books and grateful that they thought of me when the opportunity arose. All that's left is to find out if I fit into the jacket that I wore on Katie Couric.

Lilly will provide transportation to and from New York (car ride), a stipend for expenses and one nights lodging. The Coco books are free through your Endocrinologist, just ask your doc for a copy (they can get them through their Lilly sales rep).

Video from my Katie appearance

Since we were away on a family vacation when my 'Katie' appearance aired, its possible that I was the last of us to watch it. I want to thank you all for the FaceBook messages and tweets that you sent during the show, they really helped me to feel like I wasn't missing it - you guys are the best!

Okay, well... my hair was a bit fluffier than I would have hoped and my (IMO) best and funniest answers were edited out (Likely because I strayed off topic) but here is my first appearance on nationwide television. I had the audience laughing a number of times with my pithy and sarcastic antidotes about married sex but since they didn't make the cut, I'm assuming that they weren't in line with the tone of the piece. I mean, I don't think that I was too dirty... I'll have to find another way to share them with you someday.

The 13 Rules of Paternus Domesticus

Immediately after taping ended for the segment of 'Katie' that I will be appearing on today, Ms. Couric looked at me and asked if I would write a blog post for her blog at KatieCouric.com... And so I did!

You can check out 'The 13 Rules of Paternus Domesticus' on Katie's blog here.
